SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has officially announced the reopening of two key service hubs in the Central Valley. Following a series of vital infrastructure and efficiency upgrades, both the Visalia field office and the Fresno Commercial Drive Test Center (CDTC) will resume in-person operations this week.
- Visalia Office: Reopens Tuesday, April 14 at 8 a.m.
- Fresno CDTC: Reopens Monday, April 13 at 7 a.m.
- Skip the Line: Most transactions can be completed online at dmv.ca.gov.
The Visalia field office, located at 1711 E. Main St., is ready to welcome the public back starting Tuesday morning. The facility has been closed since December 26 to undergo several necessary site improvements aimed at improving the customer experience.
According to the DMV, the closure allowed for the installation of new restroom fixtures and the resurfacing of the parking lot, ensuring a safer and more comfortable environment for local residents.
For commercial drivers, the wait is over. The Fresno CDTC at 735 E. North Ave. will resume services starting Monday at 7 a.m. The office briefly closed on March 20 for internal renovations.
Key upgrades at the Fresno location include a reconfiguration of the office interior to streamline workflow and improve customer processing efficiency, along with new carpeting in primary work areas.
| Location | Address | Reopening Date |
|---|---|---|
| Fresno CDTC | 735 E. North Ave. | Monday, April 13 |
| Visalia DMV | 1711 E. Main St. | Tuesday, April 14 |
Despite the reopenings, the DMV is strongly encouraging customers to use digital service channels first. Many Central Valley residents may not realize that a physical visit is no longer necessary for the most common tasks.
Common services available online include:
- Vehicle registration renewals (most vehicles).
- Driver’s license renewals (for eligible customers).
- Changing your address.
- Requesting a duplicate driver’s license.
Before heading to the Visalia or Fresno offices, the DMV suggests using the Service Advisor tool on their website to determine if your task can be completed from home or to ensure you have the correct documents for an in-person visit.
